چکیده

We study the occurrence of plateaux and jumps in the magnetization curves of a class of frustrated ladders for which the Hamiltonian can be written in terms of the total spin of a rung. We argue on the basis of exact diagonalization of finite clusters that the ground state energy as a function of magnetization can be obtained as the minimum with Maxwell constructions if necessary of the energies of a small set of spin chains with mixed spins. This allows us to predict with very elementary methods the existence of plateaux and jumps in the magnetization curves in a large parameter range, and to provide very accurate estimates of these magnetization curves from exact or DMRG results for the relevant spin chains. Anomalous magnetization process in frustrated spin ladders

We study, at T = 0, the anomalies in the magnetization curve of the S = 1 two-leg ladder with frustrated interactions. We focus mainly on the existence of the M = Ms/2 plateau, where Ms is the saturation magnetization. We reports the results by degenerate perturbation theory and and the density matrix renormalization group, which lead to the consistent conclusion with each other. We also touch ...

Magnetic Properties of Zig - Zag Ladders ∗

We analyze the phase diagram of a system of spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains interacting through a zigzag coupling, also called zigzag ladders. Using bosonization techniques we study how a spin-gap or more generally plateaux in magnetization curves arise in different situations. While for coupled XXZ chains, one has to deal with a recently discovered chiral perturbation, the couplin...

Half-magnetization plateaux in Cr spinels

Magnetization plateaux, visible as anomalies in magnetic susceptibility at low temperatures, are one of the hallmarks of frustrated magnetism. An extremely robust halfmagnetization plateau is observed in the spinel oxides CdCr2O4 and HgCr2O4, where it is accompanied by a substantial lattice distortion. We give an overview of the present state experiment for CdCr2O4 and HgCr2O4, and show how suc...

Field-induced order and magnetization plateaux in frustrated antiferromagnets

We argue that collinearly ordered states which exist in strongly frustrated spin systems for special rational values of the magnetization are stabilized by thermal as well as quantum fluctuations. These general predictions are tested by Monte Carlo simulations for the classical and Lanczos diagonalization for the S = 12 frustrated square-lattice antiferromagnet.
